Make Your Own Baby Soap to Minimize Harmful Chemicals

Choosing baby soap must be extra careful. Do not use ordinary soap because ordinary soap is to clean the body's oily skin and smell bad due to germs. Meanwhile, babies do not need such soap because their skin is not oily and smelly. Basically, babies under 1 year old only need to be bathed about three times a week without using soap or cleansers. The only parts that need to be cleaned are the buttocks and the folds in the hands and feet. But when the baby is old enough to move outdoors, the frequency of bathing can be increased. At this time you must be smart to choose the safest soap for babies. When you buy baby soap, pay close attention to the contents contained in it. Baby soap should not contain chemicals such as parabens and phthalates because these two compounds are harmful to babies. In addition, choose baby soap that is lightweight, soft, and free of fragrance and preservatives. Unfortunately, there are still many baby soaps that contain fragrances, chemicals, and preservatives. Therefore, many parents decide to make their own baby soap. If you make it yourself, you can make sure that the soap does not contain chemicals. Therefore, the ingredients used are organic ingredients, natural fragrances that are soothing, and oils. Baby soap requires more fat than adult soap as a main ingredient in softening baby's skin. To make your own baby soap, the following ingredients are needed for the manufacturing steps.
  • Unscented castile soap (pure olive soap), can be purchased at organic ingredients stores (as needed).
  • Essential oils such as lavender, orange, or other fragrances, provided they are not fragrant oils.
  • Rosemary oil extract which functions as a natural preservative.
  • Whole chamomile or lavender flowers.
After all of these ingredients are ready, you can start making your own baby soap by following the steps below.
  • Prepare a 600 ml plastic bottle with the shape according to your preference. You can use thick plastic bottles that have been used as long as they are washed thoroughly beforehand.
  • Pour 414 ml (1 ¾ cup) castile liquid soap into the plastic bottle.
  • Add two drops of essential oil as a natural fragrance using a pipette. You can adjust the level of fragrance according to personal preferences.
  • Add two drops of rosemary oil extract using a pipette.
  • Put 2 tablespoons (tablespoons) of lavender or chamomile flowers, or a mixture of lavender and chamomile flowers (1 tablespoon each) in a small bowl.
  • Put ½ tablespoon of flowers that have been mixed into the plastic bottle.
  • Shake all ingredients in the bottle for 30 seconds.
  • Let stand for one hour, then liquid soap can be used.
Homemade baby soap you can use to bathe children or give as a gift. If you have succeeded in making baby soap like the steps above, please make it in large quantities to stock up. Make the most inventory for the next six months so that the ingredients are still fresh and don't risk expiration.
