Taking medicine with tea should not be done. The reason is, several types of drugs can interact with substances in tea. This can disrupt the effectiveness of the drug and cause side effects. In fact, some types of drugs should not be taken together with certain foods or drinks, including tea, because they can cause drug interactions. Well, considering that tea is one drink that contains caffeine, so taking medicine with tea is not recommended.

Medications that should not be taken with tea

The following are some types of drugs that are not recommended to be taken with tea:

1. Blood pressure-lowering drugs

High blood pressure-lowering drugs, especially nadolol, should not be taken with tea, especially green tea. Taking this medicine with tea can reduce the effectiveness of the drug and inhibit the absorption of the drug in the body. 2. Birth control pills

Taking the contraceptive pill together with black tea is not recommended, because birth control pills contain estrogen, and tea contains caffeine compounds. Consuming both together risks reducing the body's speed in processing caffeine, thereby causing an increase in heart rate, headaches, and anxiety disorders.

3. Medications for depression and heart disease

There are a number of herbal teas that are used to treat depression, one of which is the herbal tea John’s Wort. Unfortunately, taking antidepressant drugs together with this herb can trigger a surge in serotonin levels in the body, which can cause side effects such as restlessness, chills, to heart problems. 7. Clozapine

Clozapine is a medicine to treat the symptoms of psychosis. Taking it together with black tea can increase the risk of side effects from this drug. In addition, caffeine in black tea is thought to reduce the body's speed in breaking down clozapine.

8. Ephedrine

Ephedrine has the properties as a bronchodilator and decongestant, which is a drug to relieve breathing in conditions of shortness of breath or nasal congestion. Drinking ephedrine with tea is not recommended, because caffeine and ephedrine are stimulants that can improve the work of the nervous system. If these two substances are consumed together, serious side effects can occur. One of them is heart problems.

9. Anticoagulant drugs

Anticoagulant drugs are drugs to block blood clots used in the treatment of heart disease and stroke. Taking this medicine with tea is not recommended, because they both can slow blood clotting, thereby increasing the risk of bleeding and bruising.
